How Should You Store Two Tyre Sets and Plan Seasonal Changes for an EV?

Posted on October 6, 2026 By Becky

Plan two tyre sets around your climate and driving needs, arrange suitable storage before the first swap, and have the returning set inspected before fitting. With EV car tires (this is commonly referred to as ยาง รถยนต์ ev in Thai), both sets must meet the vehicle’s specifications. Seasonal changes make sense where conditions justify them; owning an electric car does not automatically mean you need winter and summer tyres. The challenge is giving the unused set a proper home and bringing it back into service deliberately.

Four tyres arrive in the garage, and suddenly the space beside the bicycles looks smaller. Somewhere, the other season has to live.

First, Decide What You Are Storing

You can keep spare tyres that a workshop mounts onto your existing wheels, or maintain a second set already fitted to compatible wheels.

The first avoids buying another wheel set but involves mounting work at each changeover. The second needs storage space and an initial investment in wheels. Ask about compatibility and tyre pressure monitoring before choosing.

Get quotations for the complete arrangement, including fitting and storage if required. A convenient system is one you can manage twice a year without reorganising the garage.

Prepare Their Place Before Removal

Choose an indoor location where tyres will be protected from sunlight, damp, heat and accidental damage. Keep them away from fuel, solvents and equipment that produces ozone, such as certain electric motors.

Storage position depends on whether wheels are attached. Loose tyres should stand upright rather than hang from hooks. Wheel-mounted sets can use appropriate racks or stacking arrangements, following the supplier’s guidance.

If your available space is a hot shed or a crowded passageway, ask a tyre retailer about professional storage. Confirm how the set will be identified, inspected and retrieved.

The Handover Takes a Few Minutes

Before the outgoing set disappears into storage:

  • Have its condition checked, including tread wear and visible damage.
  • Identify its previous wheel positions without assuming the same arrangement will suit refitting.
  • Clean away road dirt and let everything dry thoroughly.
  • Keep a dated photograph and note any recommended work.

An unresolved issue is easier to address now than in the morning when you need the car ready for a long journey.

Let Conditions Guide the Appointment

Avoid treating a calendar date as a command. Discuss local weather, planned travel and the intended operating conditions of each tyre set with your fitter.

Someone driving through cold mountain conditions has different needs from an owner whose routes stay warm throughout the year. Plan ahead for seasonal workshop demand, but keep the choice grounded in your actual journeys.

On refitting day, request another inspection. Time in storage does not stop tyre ageing. The workshop should confirm suitability, set pressures to the vehicle’s guidance and check any pressure-monitoring requirements.

Give the Next Season a Smooth Start

An organised changeover leaves you with fitted tyres ready for use and a stored set whose condition is understood. You should know where everything is, what needs attention and when to review it again.

Contact Landsail to discuss suitable options from its EV tyre range and find an affiliated dealer. Share your vehicle details and seasonal routes to plan tyre use, fitting and storage around your car.
