Ready for a Refresh? Here’s 5 Renovation Projects to Prioritize

Posted on February 10, 2026March 30, 2026 By Becky

When it comes to your home, there will always be times when you want to give it a little refresh. After all, we spend so much time in our homes that it’s nice to be able to feel as if they add to our energy levels and make us feel comfortable. Over time, you may find that your home gets messy and a little dated. Here’s how to change that.

1. Declutter and Clear

First of all, it’s important for you to begin by decluttering your home. When you want it to feel more refreshed, it’s important that you aren’t dealing with a lot of mess because this will really cramp the overall look of your home. Begin by having a good clearing out session and aim to clear any junk from any rooms that you feel you no longer need and is just getting in the way

2. Repaint and Add Wallpaper

At this point, you can then begin any of the minor renovation works that you might want to do. Something that is always worth doing is to make sure that you repaint any of the walls or even consider adding wallpaper. Even if you are not skilled at this, you can bring in a local painter who will do a great job of reviving your walls. You may find that a splash of new color will go a long way.

3. Revamp the Main Areas

Then you have the idea of revamping some of your main areas. Here, you may find that bringing in a brand new kitchen design can really add more life to your home. The same goes for adding in new bathroom designs. When you renovate and revamp your main fittings and fixtures in the house, it can make it feel brand new.

4. Accessorize Well

Something very simple that often goes a long way is bringing in the right accessories. You may even find that with the space you already have, you can do a lot by bringing in some little touches. Adding artwork to the wall, bringing in comforting soft furnishings, and even decorative touches on things like bookshelves and wall shelves can go a long way. Plus, using lighting to your advantage to create atmosphere can help you to add the right effect.

5. Add Kerb Appeal

Lastly, you may also want to think about adding some kerb appeal to your home. When you’re keen on renovating your home, it’s really important for you to focus on the outside as well as the interiors. But the good news is you can also make a lot of change by doing only a few little things to the outside space. Cleaning and tidying up your exterior from the garden area to the driveway can make a huge difference. Looking to wash up your drive can make it look more appealing. You can then also add in some plants or hanging baskets next to your door to make it feel inviting and welcoming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where should I start if I feel overwhelmed?
Start small. Choose one room or even one area, like a single cupboard or drawer. Completing a small space first gives you motivation to tackle the rest of the house.

Q: How often should I declutter my home?
It’s a good idea to do a proper declutter at least once or twice a year. Many people also find it helpful to do mini clear-outs each season to stop clutter building up again.

Q: Do I need a big budget to refresh my home?
Not at all. Simple changes like repainting, rearranging furniture, or adding new accessories can make a huge difference without spending much money.

Q: What colours are best for making a home feel fresh?
Light, neutral tones like soft whites, greys, and pastels tend to make rooms feel brighter and more spacious. Adding small pops of colour through cushions or artwork keeps things interesting.

Q: Should I hire professionals or try DIY?
For smaller tasks like painting or accessorizing, DIY is usually fine. For bigger jobs like kitchen or bathroom renovations, hiring professionals will often save time, stress, and costly mistakes.

Q: How can I refresh my home if I’m renting?
Focus on non-permanent updates such as removable wallpaper, new curtains, rugs, cushions, and artwork. These changes can transform a space without breaking tenancy rules.

Q: What are the quickest ways to improve curb appeal?
Simple steps like cleaning the front door, trimming hedges, mowing the lawn, washing the driveway, and adding potted plants can instantly make your home look more inviting.

Q: How long does a home refresh usually take?
It depends on the size of the project. Decluttering and decorating a room can take a weekend, while larger renovations may take weeks. Planning ahead helps keep things on track.

Q: How do I stop my home from getting messy again?
Create simple habits like regular tidying routines, having proper storage solutions, and doing small daily resets so clutter doesn’t build up over time.

Q: What gives the biggest impact for the least effort?
Fresh paint, good lighting, and decluttering almost always deliver the biggest transformation with the least amount of work.
