How to Stay Safe on a Night Out Posted on December 3, 2025 By Becky Nights out are supposed to be fun, but when you’re worried about your safety, then it can take the shine off the whole evening, right? That’s why it’s so important that you always take the time to think in advance what you are going to do to stay safe, then you can dance the night away, drink many pretty cocktails and finish the evening with that obligatory greasy kebab, without a care in the world. So, let’s take a look at what you can do to stay safe on your next night out, right now: Stick With Your Crew Even the most independent, life and soul of the party, person benefits from having a solid buddy system on a night out. Arrive together, bounce between bars together, and leave together. This might sound a bit clingy, but it really isn’t, it’s a sensible safety precaution that will ensure that you all have each other’s backs, and no one gets stuck in an awkward or unsafe situation alone. Plus, it’s way more fun having someone to debrief with about that random person who tried to show you their “impressive” card trick. Keep an Eye on Your Drinks Your drinks are one of the things that can leave you vulnerable because, if you leave them alone, someone could slip something in them that could leave you incapacitated. So, if you need to nip to the loo, take your drink with you, and never accept a drink you have not personally seen being poured. Know Your Limit (Even If Your Limit Is “Barely Anything”) There’s no medal for out-drinking your friends. None. Zero. Nada. Staying safe means knowing when to slow down, switch to water, or call it a night. Intoxication makes you more vulnerable, more trusting of questionable strangers, and more likely to leave your bag in a bathroom stall and spend the next 45 minutes retracing your steps like a detective who’s had two margaritas too many. Stay Aware Without Killing the Mood You don’t need to scan every room like an undercover agent. But being generally aware of your surroundings is a game-changer. Notice exits. Check your transportation before you go out. Keep your phone charged. And if a situation feels weird or unsafe? Trust your instincts and get out. Your intuition is basically your built-in safety app. Keep Your Cool Drunk arguments can turn into physical confrontations faster than you’d think, especially outside bars or in line for late-night pizza. The best move? Just walk away. No one wins in a street fight, not your dignity, not your outfit, and certainly not your next morning. In rare cases, people end up needing a self defence lawyer because things escalated way beyond what they intended. Avoid the drama (and the legal bills) by choosing the high road whenever possible. A good night out starts and ends with safety in mind, so when you’re planning which bars to hit and what you’re going to wear, be sure to plan how you’re going to stay safe too!
