Sports to Watch as a Family Posted on August 29, 2025 By Becky It is not always easy to find shared activities that the whole family can enjoy. One great way to bond as a family, share excitement, and create lasting memories is to watch sport together. It is hard to beat the thrill of live sport, and when you are all cheering for the same team, it can create a special bonding experience. With this in mind, this post will explore a few of the best live sports to watch together as a family. Football – The Nation’s Favourite Sport Of course, football is the nation’s favourite sport and something that captivates fans for a large part of the year. It can be a great choice for families because it is hard to beat the thrill and excitement of a live football match, particularly when you can see household names in the flesh, such as Liverpool manager Arne Slot leading out last year’s Premier League champions with a team filled with superstars like Mohammed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk. Athletics & Track Events Athletics and track events are well-suited to families because you get a range of activities in one experience, which adds excitement and variety. This can include explosive 100 metre races, longer races putting endurance to the test, or fun and impressive events like pole vaulting. There are events available to watch all over the UK, and it can be an affordable day out, particularly when compared to other live sporting events. Tennis for All Ages Tennis is another fantastic spectator sport and one that is well-suited to families. Of course, Wimbledon is the pinnacle of tennis and an incredible experience that all ages can enjoy if you are lucky enough to get tickets/willing to camp (this can also be a fun family activity). Wimbledon is not the only live tennis in the UK, though, as there are many other events to consider. Additionally, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) runs regular events to make tennis more accessible for youngsters. Exploring New & Niche Sports The above are a few of the most obvious choices, but there are many other sports to consider. Every live sport has its own atmosphere and characteristics, so it is a good idea to try a few to see what your family likes best. A few options worth checking out include netball, basketball, ice hockey, and rugby sevens. Hopefully, this post will encourage you to check out a few live sports as a family. Watching live sport can bring you closer together, bring excitement to your life, and give you something that you can bond over for life!
