Tips to Create a Minimalist Interior

Posted on July 8, 2025August 27, 2025 By Becky

If you are looking to change the interior of your home and you are looking for a simple layout, the minimalist look is for you. In this short blog, we aim to highlight a few minimalist hacks that transform your living space.

  • Neutral colours – Your palette is natural with light beiges, creams and dark greens; white and grey have a calming effect; check out Google Images and search for ‘minimalist colours’ and be amazed! Ask the best interior decorators Adelaide has to offer and they will show you greys, light browns and greens, blended with a matt white.
  • Lots of storage space – Being minimalist doesn’t mean we don’t have stuff, it is hidden in innovative storage bins and cupboards that don’t catch the eye. Ask a local joiner to pay you a visit and he can knock up a few units that are concealed, so all your small items can be hidden away.
  • Blend textures – Clever use of textures is the heart of a good minimalist look, fabrics, matt finishes on metal and concrete is a great finish for a minimalist space. The trick is not to overdo things, we are not looking to attract the eye with texture, merely bring balance.
  • Think functionality – The minimalist concept demands functionality; this must always be at the forefront of your mind. Anything that doesn’t have a use has no place in this concept. The uncluttered look screams usefulness and that makes for a clean and airy environment. Cleaning is a breeze, another major plus for the simple look! Click here for more on practicality.
  • Clean lines – Keep things smooth when it comes to edges, flowing curves, ovals and circles are perfect. If you are planning to use an interior decorator, once they hear the word minimalist, they know precisely what to do and will look at what you have. The decorator can work with your budget and would want to work room by room.
  • Online inspiration – There is nothing like photos to inspire you when it comes to interior design; thumb through the 1000s of images Google can find; you might take one thing from an image, then move on to the next until you have a list.
  • Create a budget – It is really easy to spend too much when planning a layout; decide how much you can spend and make that a firm limit. This will cause you to shop around, so you’ll save money on the project. While watching the pennies, do not compromise quality, as this leads to replacement.

Once the layout is complete, you will come home after a hard day at the office and slump into a soft chair, pour yourself a drink and marvel at your design skills. Our home is our castle and we should take care how we arrange things to ensure we always feel comfortable when we relax.
