A Guide To Successful De-Stressing Posted on August 28, 2024May 29, 2025 By Becky A recent survey by Ciphr revealed that 30% of Brits feel stressed for at least ten days every month. Studies suggest that stress levels are rising, but what can we do to reverse the trend? In this guide, we’ll share some effective ways to tackle stress and induce calm and relaxation. Identify stressors and triggers One of the best ways to manage and prevent stress more effectively is to understand and recognise stressors and triggers. Focus on what causes you to feel stressed or under pressure. Everyone is different and we often face several different kinds of challenges in our lifetimes. Perhaps you’ve got too much on at work or you’re juggling too many balls trying to look after children or elderly parents while working to put food on the table. Maybe you’re worried about money, or you’re anxious about your health. You may be stressed about your relationships with others, or you might be concerned about losing your job. Many people are more prone to stress when they’re tired. If you don’t sleep well, you can get into a vicious cycle where stress stops you from sleeping and a lack of sleep exacerbates stress. Once you know what triggers stress, try to avoid situations that will make your mental health worse. Tackle problems head-on. If you’re worried about your workload, for example, speak to your employer. If you’ve got money problems, speak to a financial adviser or contact a debt charity. Find time for activities that help you to lower stress levels and relax Many of us feel that there aren’t enough hours in the day. If you have a busy schedule, it can be hard to find the time for hobbies, having fun and relaxing. If you’re chasing your tail all the time, or your work-life balance is heavily weighted towards work, it’s crucial to find time for activities that help you combat stress. Read a book, go for a walk, listen to music, play Minesweeper, go for a coffee with a friend, paint a picture, do a yoga or dance class or curl up on the sofa with the dog and a good box set. Prioritise downtime. Schedule breaks and set clear boundaries between work and leisure time. Some people also find that incorporating THC gummies into their evening routine offers a gentle way to unwind and deepen relaxation after a demanding day. Don’t hesitate to get help and advice It’s not always easy to be open about how you feel, but it’s important to recognise when stress is getting worse or taking over your life. If you can’t talk to people close to you, consider seeing a therapist or speak to your doctor. There are self-help techniques you can try as well as other treatment options, such as talking therapies. We often find it harder to talk about mental health symptoms than physical issues, but this shouldn’t be the case. If you struggle to open up, you might also benefit from writing things down or doing creative activities. Painting, drawing, writing and playing music can help you express yourself in a constructive way. Embrace exercise Exercise is beneficial for your physical health, but it can also be an incredibly potent natural stress buster. Regular exercise can help you lower stress levels and reduce the risk of anxiety and depression. It also improves sleep quality and gives you a lift. When you move your body, it releases endorphins, known as happy hormones, and the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain increase. This provides a natural high. If you’re not used to exercise, start with gentle activities and build your fitness gradually. Simple things like going for a walk or doing a beginner’s Pilates class will make a big difference. Setting targets is a great way to increase activity levels. You should notice that you feel more energised and motivated after physical activity. Keep up with your routine and set new goals if you’ve hit your target. Using a tracker is an easy, effective way to improve your fitness and make time for exercise. Set yourself a target of 5,000 or 10,000 daily steps or work towards 150 active minutes per week. Make exercise fun. Go to dance classes with your friends, take your dog out for a hike or run, or explore the great outdoors and go cycling, open-water swimming or kayaking. Stress is one of the most common health issues today. There are multiple causes of stress and everyone responds differently. To manage stress and feel calmer and more relaxed, it’s helpful to recognise triggers and stressors, reduce exposure and be proactive in looking after your mental and physical health. Seek help and advice if you’re finding it hard to stay on top of stress and make time for activities that help you to feel better. Try to exercise regularly and spend time outdoors.
