Before I had kids, I guess like lots of people I had a very definite idea about what kind of mum I would be. I wouldn’t ever shout (ha!), I would breastfeed until baby was at least 6 months (didn’t happen) and I would actually enjoy baking/crafts etc. Whilst the first two things listed there haven’t always gone to plan, I do actually enjoy doing messy stuff with my older two ankle biters, (as long as it’s not sewing. ANYTHING but sewing). And I’d like to think I’m a lot like the kind of Mum I imagined I’d be, albeit with a few tweaks.
I’m more patient in some ways than I thought I’d be (learning to ride a bike, teaching them their times tables) and less patient in other ways (I can’t BEAR sibling bickering, and any whingey voices send my blood pressure through the roof).
I’m definitely organised, enjoy thinking up ideas for parties/fancy dress, fairly laid back when it comes to eating (although thankfully we don’t have fussy eaters), adore Christmas and all the planning, love taking them on days out and actually enjoy being silly with them and having random conversations. I’m always up for a Nerf war, water slide or trampolining and I’m totally desperate for someone to be into horses so I can become a Pony Club mum.
I could definitely be less stressy when it comes to mess (although I’m learning to let go), and I often think I’m quite distracted by work stuff and my phone far more than I’d really like.
But all three children are completely adored, and I really hope they have happy memories of their childhoods.
Nobody is perfect, but as long as we try our best, I think that’s good enough.
When SunLife got in touch to see if I wanted to take their fun quiz, “What kind of Mum are you?”, I jumped at the chance to see if what I imagine I am is anywhere near reality!
Why not take the quiz yourself- the results might be very revealing!
Hop on over to the SunLife website and get started– there are 8 easy, multiple choice questions to answer with a summary at the end.
So what sort of mum am I?
I’m apparently Organic Mum:
“You’re generous and you never fall short when it comes to giving your kids the love or attention they need. You’re open to most ideas and encourage your kids to be free-thinking and open-minded about most aspects of life. You’ve an artistic mind and always open to sharing your emotions with the kids and provide the best advice for every moment. Live and learn is the way you live your life and want your kids to live theirs”
You know what?
I’ll take that! Whether or not my kids agree is another matter- I’d like to think they largely would.
