As my regular blog readers will know, we have been working with Swim England over the past year to promote the importance of learning to swim, and also to track our own children’s progress in the water.
Both Freddie and Sasha have had swimming lessons at a local pool since they were 3 years old, and after a slightly shaky start where neither were overly confident in the water, they are now little fishes. Sasha is nearly on Stage 4 of The Swim England awards scheme, and Freddie is now on level 7 and has achieved his 100 metre distance badge, something I just never thought would happen!
On holiday this year our villa had a pool, and it was just so lovely to see them confident in the water (even practising their diving in!), and most importantly I felt they were safe in the water by themselves (with an adult on the side of the pool of course). They had so much fun playing games with one another (diving down and picking up objects from the bottom of the pool featured heavily), and as a strong swimmer as a child myself I loved seeing the clear improvements they’d both made.
I know that if they hadn’t have had weekly swimming lessons, then realistically this progress wouldn’t have been made, no matter how many times we’d say we’d take them swimming ourselves.
