Self-Care Tips For Stressed-Out Mums

As any mum will likely know, life can be very stressful when you have kids to look after. Not only do you have to manage their care needs but you also have to deal with the mess and chaos that they cause around the house! Our kids are totally worth it, of course, but let’s be honest, there are times when we need to focus on our own needs for a while.

With this in mind, here are our self-care tips for stressed-out mums!

#1: Ask for help

Finding time for self-care can be difficult which is why this is at the top of our list. If you have parents, friends, in-laws, or neighbours that are available to lend you a hand, call on their services. They could help you with your household chores occasionally or take the kids off your hands for an hour or two. You can probably create a to-do list that is as long as your arm to give to them but go easy so you can rely on their help for longer!


#2: Take a long hot bath

Having a hot bath is the perfect way to relax when you’re in need of some me-time. Sure, you might need to remove the rubber ducks and other toys that your kids have thrown in there first, but you will start to feel your stresses melting away when you’re unwinding in the water. To bring on those feelings of calm, add some bath salts, light a few scented candles, and have some relaxing music playing in the background to distract you from your stresses. 


#3: Take something for stress relief

When stress starts to overwhelm you bring yourself back to a place of calm with a stress remedy. Herbal teas work for some so you might want to pick up something from the supermarket or health store. Your health store will have other natural products that you can take for stress so ask them for their recommendations.

#4: Go for a walk

Fresh air and exercise are both stress-relievers and you might even meet other mums on your walk for some adult conversation. This is something you can do while your kids are at school, although if your children are very young, you can simply put them in their pushchairs and take them with you.  


#5: Watch something you enjoy on the TV

With kids in the house, it can be difficult to watch the things you normally enjoy. Your home might be invaded by Peppa Pig, Minecraft videos, Paw Patrol, and those other things that your kids might be glued to. However, you need to take control of the remote once in a while, be that before or after your kids are in bed. You will then have the opportunity to watch the programmes that you enjoy and these should distract you from your usual mummy stresses.
