Interior Styling – Children’s Wallpapers (and a special nod to the purple-lovers living with us!)

As I’ve mentioned previously, (and sorry to bore you if you’ve heard before!), we are currently in the process of having our loft converted into another bedroom, which means that the second lady of the house (after moi, natch), will be moving from her small room into our present one (are you following?!). With this in mind, I’ve been starting to think about how to style her new room, and I must admit that I can’t wait to get my hands on it! The walls are currently plain, and much to my interior-loving shame, it’s the one room in our house that we actually have done diddly-squat to in the 3 years since we’ve been here. Maybe subconsciously we knew we wouldn’t be in there for the long hall, who knows? Either way, it is SO ready to be turned into a 3 year old’s haven, and a place where the design will last the good few years (I hope, *sniff*) of the ‘little girl’ phase.

When asked, S has decided she would like a ‘purple room please Mummy’, so I’ve been trying to decide if I can find some beautiful/quirky/not-too-vom-inducing purple wallpaper, or whether we go for a different colour wallpaper and then pimp it up with lots of purple accessories. Decisions, decisions! It’s funny, because I was reading on Mumsnet the other day about someone whose 3 year old also wanted a purple room, but instead the Mum chose tasteful grey wallpaper with purple accessories. The 3 year old was distraught, and Mum got slated online (obvs)! Got me thinking that you’re only small once, and that you generally get to make sweet F-A decisions about the running of your home, aside from your room, so really should give a bit of creative licence where possible. With that in mind, I’m going to suck it up and kiss goodbye any notions of a artfully black/white/scandi/wan*y/Instaperfect room. Although I’m sure I can still squeeze an Instagram-friendly print or 3 in there somewhere.

So..I digress… here is what i’ve found so far on the hunt for the perfect children’s wallpaper….First up, some favourite non-purple designs, and (sadly for me!), there are oodles to choose from:

…And for the purple fans, the below may satisfy… although surprisingly (or not) I haven’t actually found that many places offering purple children’s wallpapers (which may be a blessing in disguise for eyes all over the UK). I really thought I’d find more choice!

As it happens, out of these, my favourite is the one immediately below: The Hibou Home ‘Enchanted Wood’ wallpaper. It’s not cheap, at £69.95 a roll, but I must admit it would look pretty darn good on just one or two walls in a room. What do you reckon? Too much or should I just indulge the 3 year old’s dream?! I must admit, I do really like this one and think I could ‘do something’ to a room that included it.

I love that last wallpaper, so pretty. I do love a lot of the non-purple ones too.
O is desperate for a Lightning McQueen bedroom but I just can’t bring myself to have red Disney wallpaper all over his room (does that make me a bad mum).
I’ve picked some alternative wallpaper and am planning a beach/seaside theme with a few nods to Lightning thrown in. Hopefully it will work and keep us both happy. I just know if we go full on Mr McQueen a week later he’ll decide he doesn’t like it anymore and then we’ll all be stuck with it! xx
