Ikea Hack Chevron Drawers Tutorial

Apologies for the slight breather on the blog- we’ve been away on holiday for the past week so I have a few new posts to go up this week, and if you’re in to DIY and /or upcycling then I think they’ll be right up your street!

Using Rust-Oleum Colour Wash Paint, I’ve got a great makeover for a set of Ikea RAST drawers. This paint is beautifully pearlescent (and available in four shades) and lightly tints wood- adding pops of colour whilst displaying the natural grain. By adding translucent colour to bare or unpainted wood, you can create texture and dimension (as well as giving an unloved piece of furniture a new lease of life!).

This IKEA hack creates a cool chevron feature piece- perfect for a playroom or bedroom, or anywhere where you want to make a colourful statement.

You will need:

  • Rust-Oleum Colour Wash – in Cloud Blue and Pearly Pink
  • Tape Measure
  • Masking Tape
  • IKEA RAST drawers or bare wood drawers

Instructions:

  1. Remove drawer handles and set aside.
  2. Measure each drawer so you’re sure where the centre and mark out the chevron design with the masking tape, ensuring the drawer edges are covered. Trim any excess tape to give clean lines.
  3. Paint the bare sections of wood, alternating between the blue and the pink.
  4. Remove the masking tape once dry.
  5. Remask the chevron design to leave one stripe of bare wood and one stripe of colour in each section.
  6. Paint each area again in the same colours, which enables some sections a chance to get a second coat.
  7. Put the handles back on, and prepare to step back and admire your handiwork!

What do you think of this IKEA hack? Have you ever carried out something similar?

I’d love to hear!

This is such a great post! Its great to see such a creative way to decorate, which can be tough if you’re on a budget! This is a simple method which saves a lot of money and will be a great addition to the house, especially a little girl’s bedroom! In which case, you can get all the kids involved and really make it a family activity!

It looks fab and you make it look so easy.
This would look perfect in a kids room or even as a focal point in a Hallway.

I must give these paints a try x
