With the new year, the new decade, you are probably feeling determined to make a few changes this year. You might have made a few resolutions already, or perhaps you have kicked off the year by making a few plans and setting yourself some goals. A new year is a good time to take stock and it is as good a time as any to make some changes. Whilst we are not convinced by the ‘new year, new you’ mantra, today we are sharing a few suggestions around how to make the best of yourself in 2020. Same you, just all singing and all dancing!
Aside from the fact that being organised makes life run a little more smoothly, it can also help you to get more done and make the most of your time. That is why we are kicking off this list by suggesting that you stay organised this year.
Make it a best practice to note everything down that you need to remember. Work with task lists and use calendars so that you do not forget appointments and special occasions.
Declutter your home and then keep on top of it going forward. You might need to get everyone in your home on board with this one so that it works effectively. You should find that a decluttered home is a tidy home as everything will have a place to go. You should then find that you are not wasting time searching for things or tidying up.
When you are organised, you plan more effectively and you will take the time to look ahead. By doing this you can plan fun things for yourself whilst keeping everything on track.
Look after your health
You don’t have to go all in on Dry January or Veganuary in order to look after your health this year. In fact, making small changes can often make them more sustainable, so start with the things that are most important to you.
Perhaps this is the year that you are determined to give up smoking or you will add more nutritional food to your diet. You might have been toying with the idea of therapy for a while, then go for it and address those concerns this year. Or perhaps you know you need to book an eye test or make an appointment to address your dental care with jm dental.
As soon as those bigger things are in hand, you can make the smaller changes and start forming some good habits.
Make a point of drinking plenty of water every day as it will benefit both your physical and mental health to do so. This is an easy one to do, you just need to work at it for the first week or two in order for it to become a habit.
You should then make sure that you are getting enough sleep as sleep deprivation can be detrimental to your health. Now we know that even with the best intentions of getting a good night’s sleep, children can throw a spanner in the works! This being the case, aim for an early night every once in a while to put you back on track.
Connect with family and friends
What is life about if not the connections that we have with others? However, we are often so busy getting through the day to day that weeks and months can fly by without us spending quality time with our loved ones.
Make 2020 the year when you prioritise catching up with good friends. These are the people that know the real you, the people that care about you and the people that make you laugh.
Think about those people in your life that you feel you want to see more of this year and then drop them a message today to arrange to see them soon. Getting things like this in your diary will definitely brighten your month and spending time with the people that make you happy will definitely bring out your best self.
Try at least one new thing
Trying new things is good for us. It is great for our self confidence, it stimulates our minds, stirs up our creativity and it could well be the beginning of a fun new hobby or adventure.
When was the last thing that you tried something new? We are often creatures of habit and find ourselves doing the same things each day, wearing the same styles, visiting the same places, eating the same things and so on. If you are not a big fan of change, you can ease yourself into this one but just altering one of these things. You could try a new coffee shop or buy a new accessory for your outfit. You will feel good when you do, you will feel bold, so then you can move onto trying something bigger.
You could take up a new sport with a friend and make it a social thing each week, you could register for an online course and finally get around to learning all about photography, or perhaps you will make it your mission to explore new places near to you each month this year.
Remember, it’s never too late to start
For many of us, January can be a challenging month. Getting back into the swing of things after the holidays with the darker mornings means that it is not the most upbeat time of year. A such, it can be hard to motivate yourself to get stuck into making any changes. If this is happening to you, then don’t worry and don’t be hard on yourself. Remember, it’s never too late to start.
You might take January as the month when you ease yourself back into things, when you formulate your plans, when you concentrate on just finding joy in each day. February can be the start of the plans, or spring, or summer, it doesn’t matter as long as you don’t feel the January overwhelm and end of doing nothing at all.
