Exciting Times Work-wise!

Becky Freeman Digital

One of the reasons I’ve been slightly quieter on here and over on social media, is that along with our house move at the end of May, I’ve left my old ‘day job’ and set up my own business!

Whilst I’ve worked freelance on this blog and creating content for brands for about 5 years now, but for the past 3 and a bit I was working as a digital marketing manager for a local tech company as my ‘steady income’. Having this job was great experience and I cut my teeth in a variety of ‘digital’ areas, plus it also meant that we had a set amount of money coming in, as blog work can be very varied from month-to-month: some months you earn a lot, other times it can be much quieter.

After wanting more flexibility and to work from home, I decide to hand my notice in and set up my own digital agency, Becky Freeman Digital, managing small-to-medium businesses’ social media, offering blog writing for business, as well as other digital services and consultations. Back in May, I initially approached the estate agent who recently sold our house, a great guy who’s excellent at his job and has a real niche & selling point within the other agencies in our local area, and I was over the moon when he said he’d take me on!

Over the past couple of months, through word of mouth and networking I’m building up a strong client roster containing companies I feel I can do a lot for, and whilst I certainly can’t rest on my laurels, it’s so far going better than I ever hoped.

I’m working 2 days from my home, plus a couple of evenings (although I’m umming and aahing whether or not to increase these days to 3 come September), and I just love the flexibility of my role and that every working day is slightly different. It’s complimenting my blogging work perfectly, and I want to pinch myself sometimes, as without starting the blog in the first place I wouldn’t have gained the skills and knowledge in the digital arena that have enabled me to set up my own agency.

I really feel like I’ve come full circle!

It was definitely scary quitting my job, but Adam was fully behind me which was important, and I think if you want something that badly you have to feel the fear and take a leap of faith (although I wouldn’t recommend starting a business at the same time as moving house, VERY stressful!)

So if you’re in my neck of the woods and you’re looking for someone to help you with the digital side of your business, you know where I am 😉

Thanks Donna! It’s going so much better than I expected, which bizarrely makes me feel really nervous! x
