A Different kind of workspace

Hello, how are you? This past week has flown by in a bit of a blur and we’ve had a lovely, busy weekend on top of some lurgy for me last week, which means I’m now playing slight catch up. I’ve been finding that doing some work on Sunday nights (in front of the telly, natch!) has helped me get ahead of myself for the week ahead. I’m also loving the fact that autumn appears to have kicked in, although we could do with some more crisp, chilly mornings please. I’m sure the warm weather combined with going back to school and mingling with others has helped germs fester! I can’t wait for stews, baked apples, squashes, red wine and picking the last of the tomato crop for green tomato chutney.

Anyway, I digress, today’s post is about creating a workspace within the home, when you don’t have a dedicated area. In our last house, once we had completed our loft conversion, I was lucky enough to have an office space just for me (the dream of anyone who works at home!). In our new house, until we can do a loft conversion and put two bedrooms in the loft, we no longer have such an area, so have had to be a little inventive.

I still love my Alex desk from Ikea and its complimenting drawers, so if there was a way that I could still use these, then I was going to be a happy lady. Thankfully our living room is large, and has a huge, square bay, so we thought we would put it here and see how we got on.

It’s been a challenge trying to have the desk here but to blend in well with the rest of the room, but I think we’ve managed to achieve this with some careful styling. Despite the room decor being on the dark-side with the blue walls, the size of bay window and the direction the room faces makes it light and airy, and I can watch the world go by when I should be working.

I’ve started to accessorise a little with succulents and photos in frames but I feel there are a couple more cool stationery-related items that could be added. I am on the hunt, so watch this space!

Do you work from home? What’s your work space like?

I’d love to hear!
