Entrepreneurs have to be effective with their team. It’s impossible to transform an idea into a product and then into a business without any kind of support. If you want to make the most out of your venture, then to build a better connection with your team is crucial because if you don’t then you may find that you end up compromising everything and this is the last thing that you need.
Reduce Time Spent on Activities
You need to make the effort to consciously reduce the amount of time that you spend on outdoor activities. You will never be viewed as being a team leader if you spend a lot of your time on activities that really are not relevant to your team. You need to be visible and engaged because if your team can never find you, then you can’t hope to make any kind of productive connection.
Connect your Team
It’s great if your team feel connected to you, but you also need to make sure that they are connected to each other as well. This could involve investing in a team communication system or even trying to have a cloud-based system to work from. Document management software can come in very useful here.
Another thing that you need to do is be compulsive about making time for your team members. Even the busiest of entrepreneurs have to schedule predictable times that they can be reached by their team. You need to dedicate an hour or so to your team every week. You can talk about the working process so far and you can also find out if your team are having any issues with the projects that they are working on.
Monthly reviews are great because team members crave feedback. An annual review may sound like a good idea but at the end of the day, it won’t help them in the short-term. Scheduled monthly meetings can help you to review the performance of your team and it also gives you the chance to review the weekly meetings that you have been having in much more depth. With every monthly review you conduct, you have to make sure that you review the weekly goals as well so that your team can feel confident knowing that you are there to support them.
It’s important that you practice leadership as much as possible. Go for a walk every day and stop at each one of your team’s desk. Ask them what is going on and how they are doing. The more you do this, the more you will be able to benefit your team overall and the more in-sync you will feel to them.
So building a basic connection with your team doesn’t have to be difficult and the more effort you put into helping them, the better. If you want to build an even better connection with your team then make sure that you work with them and that you also ask them for feedback on your performance too.
