5 ways to make your home cosy this Autumn & WIN a multi-fuel stove from Cast Fireplaces

5 ways to make your home cosy this Autumn & WIN a multi-fuel stove from Cast Fireplaces

I know I’ve mentioned it probably MANY times before, but I really do love everything about Autumn- the decor, the clothes (I’m ALL about the layering), the food… snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket and a cuppa in front of the decent autumn/winter telly… I can’t get enough!

On the blog today I’ve got some tips on how to make your home feel cosy for autumn, plus I’ve got the most fantastic giveaway, where one lucky blog reader can win a stunning multi-fuel stove for their home worth £299!

But first, here are my favourite tips for making your home feel cosy as we head into autumn…

Autumn Decor

Don’t be afraid to purchase a few autumnal-coloured accessories that you can bring out year after year. I’m talking about anything too twee, but just accessories in reds and oranges, plus items made out of rustic textures (wood, sheepskin) and add to that cosy feel. An autumn wreath can look great on the front door, and most supermarkets offer mini pumpkins in various colours that make attractive dining table centre pieces.

Fire it up

What could be more relaxing and cosiness personified than curling up next to a warm, glowing fire or stove? Cast Fireplaces do some lovely ones, including the one in my giveaway (see details below). We currently have a fireplace but it’s not in the style that I love- whether we move or not, a stove is high on my home wish list.

Enjoy Candlelight

There’s something about the chilly evenings and dimmed light that makes me want to fill every room with gorgeous candlelight. I could go mad on candles, but you don’t have to always spend a fortune when it comes to treating yourself. Try getting creative and place some in jam jars or old china teacups for an eclectic – and economical – look.

Cover up

Lush, chunky woollen or knitted blankets are the perfect sofa companion for chilly evenings. Style a couple over sofa arms, or chair backs (this is what I do, on our leather chair in the living room), so they’re all ready to pull over myself when I’m watching a bit of Ozark on the telly. If you’ve got space, try placing a woven basket in the corner of your room and keep a stash of blankets tucked away there, so you always have a few to hand (our kids are big blanket-hoggers!). Textured cushions that are knitted or fluffy add to the cosy look.

Get your lighting right

Lighting works much harder for your home during the autumn and winter months, and you need a cosy-yet-practical vibe. This includes a mix of ambient, accent and task lighting (oo-er!), and you might have to play around with your space to see what works for you. We have a mix of ceiling lights, lamps and down lights in our dark-painted living room, and it seems to work for us.

How do you make your home cosy for Autumn?

To make my home feel cosy in the autumn is to get my timer plugs out, and time them so the lights in my home come in just before we arrive home, the slow cooker will have been on (in the morning I just throw some shin beef, carrots potatoes and leeks and an oxo and boiling water), when we are home I will light tealight candles in my fireplace, and dining room table, and however cold and damp we are outdoors, we soon feel warm cosy and relaxed for the evening ahead.
