The 5 Do’s and Don’ts of Skincare

Looking after your skin is not just about looking aesthetically pleasing; it is also, and more primarily, about enabling yourself to be healthy and comfortable in (literally) your own skin. Here is a handy list of five essential dos and don’ts that will help get you on track for perfect, healthy skin.

Do: Hydrate Yourself

It’s simple: water. Drink water. We’re made up mostly of good old H2O, and a lack of it will, of course, dry out your skin. A lack of water means less radiance and more sag. We suggest choosing products (cleansing, moisturising, and anti-ageing) that have hydrating formulas. And, of course, drink around 1.9 litres of water a day, as recommended by medical experts.

There is Such a Thing as Too Much Sun

While it’s fun and relaxing to get out in the sun for a few hours prolonged exposure without appropriate protection can dry out and burn your skin, as well as increase your risk of contracting skin cancer. Be sure to use a strong enough sunscreen to keep your skin protected, and if you have experienced sun damage and wrinkles, then baby botox could help to get rid of these and look more fresh-faced.

Do: Be Someone Who Moisturizes

Why hydration is the foundation of strong skincare, regularly moisturising is an excellent way to maintain a youthful and vibrant look to your skin. The best times to apply moisturiser is right after getting out of the shower and just before you go to bed. We would also advise finding a product that isn’t too heavily fragranced and is gentle enough to be used as regularly as we are advising.

Smoking Damages Your Outside as Much as Your Inside

I think we all know how bad smoking is for your lungs but what you may not know is how bad it can be for your skin as well. This is because smoking constricts the blood vessels, which in-turn reduces blood flow, without which hampers your skin’s ability to recover from damage.

Do: Keep Your Makeup Brushes Clean

If you’re big on your make up then another highly important tip we really think you should take note of is that proper care for your make up brushes is actually essential to your skin’s health. Improperly maintained makeup brushes is like inviting infection and clogged pores, so it’s best to try and make sure you take time to clean your brushes at least once a week.

Common Cleaning Products Are a Hazard to the Skin

If you use household cleaning products like washing up liquid or bleach without the proper protection, you leave yourself open to damaging your skin with the acidic chemicals in them that are so good at removing those deeply ingrained stains you use them on. Be sure to use rubber gloves and then washing your hands after you’re done with those chores.

Do: Sleep Well

If you are anything like us, then this tip might actually end up being your favourite. Getting enough sleep and keeping yourself rested is the passive technique to keeping your skin healthy. However, it isn’t just about lying there though; what you lie on is just as important. The best you can do is resting your head on a silk pillowcase. The gentle nature of the material glides easily and doesn’t cause any wrinkles or creasing.

Don’t Sleep in Your Make Up

I’m sure you’ve probably had more than your fair share of hard days where you’ve got home and gone straight to bed without washing off your make up. Doing this though clogs your pores and leaves you susceptible to developing acne.

Do: Find the Right Cleanser and Conditioners for Your Skin

Contrary to cleaning your kitchen utensils you don’t need to use anything heavy duty to scrub your skin with on a daily basis. Mild, non-detergent cleansers like milk, gels, foams, or cloths, are your best bet, like the products that can be found at Tropic Skincare. Be sure to scan the ingredients on any skin cleansing products you use for gentle, plant-derived components.

Stressing Your Mind Stresses Your Skin

Lastly, and probably the most important thing to try and avoid, not just for your skin but also your health overall, is getting stressed. Stress on your mind has a habit of showing up physically on your face and body in the form of stress lines, dullness and wrinkles. Take a breath, make time for yourself and be sure to have moments where you forget about those things in life getting you down.
