4 New Year’s Resolutions To Improve Your Mental Health

So it’s nearly time to say goodbye to 2019! With all the holiday plans to make you may not have had time to think about those New Year’s resolutions. Most of us like the idea of improving our mental health, but we aren’t always sure where to start! For those looking for a little inspiration, try a few of these.

Get Creative

Several studies have linked creativity to a positive mental health, so it might be the time to start a new hobby! From poetry to music or illustration; you could learn yourself some new skills and gain some new friends too. When it comes to mental health, creativity is an awesome release of emotions and tension. Have you ever tried to write a journal entry or poem during a tough time? If you’ve not, give it a go and experience that therapeutic wave and lift of negativity!

Stop comparing yourself

We are probably all guilty of this one; it’s so easy to compare yourself to others and feel that they have it better than you. Whether it’s jobs, relationships, money or appearances; make a vow to stop comparing yourself to others in 2020! The practice is easier said than done, but it’s just all about challenging negative thought patterns. When you feel a negative thought coming in that’s based on comparison, try observing the thought without judging it. Let the thought go and replace the thought with something positive about yourself. If you keep doing this, you’ll retrain the brain to stop playing out those negative patterns.

Get into supplements

Okay, so we’ve all heard about the benefits of sleep, health food and exercise to improve our mental health. Yet, how many of you have tried any new herbs or supplements lately? If you’re looking for a way to improve your mental health, some herbs could be worth a try. Ashwagandha is a herb that’s been used for centuries and praised for its abilities to relieve anxiety and boost our spirits. Why not give it a try in supplement form and see if it works for you? Another idea is CBD oil; it’s recently gaining popularity for its ability to aid relaxation and a sense of calm. While it’s extracted from the marijuana plant, it doesn’t produce that ‘high’ aspect as this is down to THC (a different compound). For those interested to know more, You can get amazing value off the CBD kit from Vsavi.

Try meditation

Mediation is all about achieving a sense of calm and relaxation. It’s about connecting to the body, the earth and retraining the brain. There are several different types of meditation from mindfulness to mantra, so it can be a little tricky to know where to start. One great way in is trying a simple meditation app and seeing how you get on! As well as this, yoga classes often include meditation so it can be a helpful intro to ease you in!
