One of the rooms I never feel we’ve quite got ‘right’ in terms of decor and feel has been our bedroom. Whether it was in our first flat, the main bedroom in our old house, or lastly (pre-move) our lovely loft room, they have never felt quite ‘us’. To be fair, I was about to makeover the loft room after the build in the summer of 2015, but then we decided we were going to move (like the KER-AZY people we are) and it was left very neutral.
Since we decorated our new living room a darker blue colour, I’ve fallen in love with the dark-side of decorating, and wanted something colour-wise that had a bit more ‘depth’. I do love white in a bedroom like we’ve had previously, as it’s wonderfully restful, but to be honest I think that unless you’re a minimalist and/or don’t have young children, it’s really hard to keep it looking that way.
I still love grey (I know, maybe it’s a bit *yawn*) and it works with so many other details. If you still wanted the room to have a splash of colour, and also change up the accessories if you felt like it, to me grey is a perfect base.
I had to decided to be ruthless and get rid of clutter and any ‘trinkets’ that we no longer wanted, yet we managed to keep certain favourite items i.e the Ikea bed covers, our ‘Feather and Black’ bed, as well as the iconic ‘Kartell’ bedside tables from ‘Graham and Green’.
Laura Ashley were kind enough to send me a few gorgeous bits to get started on my bedroom. These included the big, bold ‘Virginia Woolf’ Canvas, White Feather Light Shade (I had been coveting this for YONKS), and the beautifully soft Parker Hedgerow Cotton Knit Blanket. I can totally imagine relaxing in our bedroom, snuggling our new baby boy in the latter later this year. 🙂
My mum was an absolute superstar when it came to making over this bedroom on a tight deadline in time for us moving back in to our home (hopefully) next week after all the renovations, and whilst I helped, she was very much in charge of painting (I think it was apparent that neat painting is not my forte!).
All I need now is a dressing table- for the first time in my adult life, squeeee!-, mirror and chair, possibly another nice print/picture, and our bedroom is complete.
Adam is really chuffed with it too, and I’m happy that we have a restful space that we both love.
So what do you think? Do you like grey in a bedroom, or is this grey too dark for you?
I’d love to know your thoughts!
*Laura Ashley sent me some products of my choosing to help with my bedroom makeover, all words and opinions my own.
Our bedroom’s grey and I love it – although slightly lighter than yours. Your bedroom looks lovely x

Thanks Donna! x
That colour is gorgeous! We’re just starting to investigate bedroom options at the moment so the thought of having a lovely tranquil haven at some point feels very exciting 🙂 Xx #HomeEtc

It makes SUCH a difference! I’ve never had a totally lovely bedroom space before and now I think we do, can’t wait to come to bed here! x
Love the grey – we’ve a similar colour in ours with one wall predominantly black wallpaper too. It’s a great combo for a bedroom, but I’d have to rearrange those cushions – you’ll have to swap to the other side of the bed to satisfy my AB need rather than BA ! :0 #homeetc

Ah I TOTALLY get where you’re coming from- I normally would too but I think I put them there because we’re Becky and Adam and those are the sides of the bed we each sleep on, haha!
It looks lovely, so cool and stylish, I have lots of grey in our home as I find it very calming x

Me too Sarah, and thank you! x
Yes I am a huge grey fan here too! Love the darker shades myself. It looks great – and very stylish. I have just done our hallway in a similar shade and am so pleased with it 🙂 Thanks for sharing and linking up! #HomeEtc

Thank you Jess! x
Love it!!I think I’d perhaps move the print — and maybe have a couple of smaller prints there instead — but apart from that I wouldn’t change a thing It looks fabulous. I’m loving these darker tones — we’ve just repainted our snug from mid — to very light — to charcoal grey paint i a space of a couple of months. The light — almost white — grey did the room no favours at all but the dark — almost black — looks AMAZNG!!! I’m so chuffed with it 🙂 Next stop bedroom makeover with a dark navy wall!!!! Exciting! 🙂 #HomeEtc

YES! i can’t wait to see your navy bedroom! x
Hi! Just found you on the Laura Ashley blog and going to follow you on here now. Would you be able to tell me the paint brand and colour you used please? It’s hard to tell if it’s the same colour on each wall or if the one behind the bed is darker. Thanks!

Of course Claire! The paint brand is Dulux, and the lighter grey colour is ‘warm pewter’ and the darker colour behind the bed is ‘Monument Grey’ – hope that helps!
It’s already looking fab, Becky, never mind being at the beginning!!! Greys and blues are two of my favourite colours … they’re everywhere in my home. Although, I can’t live with them on the walls. I tried but swiftly went back to white. And that lampshade!!! Swoon worthy!!!

Thanks Rachel, I’m in love with that lampshade too!
I love dark colours for bedrooms, I find them really restful. Your bedroom looks really cosy. That lampshade is heavenly.
