Pancake Saturdays

When I had children I always knew I wanted to create a few traditions for them, lovely little rituals they might want to recreate with their own family once they’d grown and flown, and things they’d remember fondly even as adults.

Step forward, Pancake Saturdays!

This ‘treat’ breakfast has crept more and more into our weekends, and whilst so simple, is something we really look forward to.

Freddie and Sasha are now old enough to sit at our breakfast bar on the big stools (a treat in itself when you’re 4 and 2), and they sit and chat to us whilst helping whip up some batter, and squeal in delight as Adam and I attempt a bit of (dodgy) flipping! Whilst I’m definitely a traditional lemon and sugar kinda girl, the children are Nutella all the way, which makes this an extra special breakfast as it’s something they’re only allowed every now and then.

With them sitting closer whilst we cook, we find we all chat more, they are in good spirits and it really sets us up for the weekend and puts a smile on our face.

Do you have any special weekend, or family rituals?

Sounds like a fab tradition to me! We do have different breakfasts at the weekend, though nothing as special as this – maybe we should start it?! Loving the photos, gorgeous and a very pretty home in the background, too x

Oh what a lovely tradition! We went through a stage of waffles for Sunday breakfast but that fell apart a bit with the arrival of a certain young man so now they’re an occasional treat instead but yummy none the less!

When I was growing up, we had biscuits often on the weekends and normally pancakes with bacon on Sundays. My parents still have pancakes on Sunday and the dogs get some bacon. I love making french toast (aka eggy bread) with my daughter on most weekends. It is great activity to have some one-on-one time with her. Trying to teach her how to crack the eggs but last Saturday one landed on the chair that stands to reach the counter. Opps! My husband does not like big breakfasts so hoping to teach my children to enjoy a cooked breakfast like I do. Keep making those memories.

Thanks Christina! I too LOVE making eggy bread, and I can relate to the missed eggs- we had similar when making the Christmas cake last year, 3 eggs went down! x

This made me giggle, we have pancake saturdays a lot of the time, nutella, or milkybar, or the standard lemon and sugar. or the healthy options…sometimes lol x

Yessssss pancake Saturdays are my kind of Saturdays- when can I come round?! We joke that our surname should be Pancake (pretty lame joke but you know!) because we all love them so much, we will always order them when we are out but we never eat them at home (bar pancake day obvs!) because we just are terrible at making them! x

Haha, you kids are CRAZY! 😉 Our pancakes got better when we bought a smaller frying pan- before we used a big-ish pan and it was all going wrong. As pancake lovers you need to hone those skills of yours 😉 xx
