Sasha at 2 years 8 months

009

Blimey, has it really been 4 months since I did one of these? I love that I’ve started these little records of both Freddie and Sasha- I hope they will be lovely to look back on when they are old enough to read. I have (probably crazy) visions of still writing this blog until they are adults, and then I can print off all these ‘X at ….years’ posts and put them into a book for them to have on their 18th birthdays. 🙂

Tomorrow S starts preschool- such a big moment, yet it doesn’t feel quite as momentous as it did with Freddie (the downside of being the second child!), possibly because she is used to hanging out with F and his friends at the start and also because we attend the attached playgroup every Tuesday morning. Everything just feels more familiar, and I’m hoping that this will stand her in good stead.

Here is how our little lady is faring up at 2 years, 8 months:

  • Loves trying to balance on one leg “watch me, watch me!” she says.
  • Has reverted to biting Freddie/us again if she has one of her epic tantrums. Which of course we are obviously not too happy about. Despite being a cheerful, loving little thing, that temper is still there- she literally shakes with rage if she doesn’t get her way, and I can have days with her when it all feels like a battle. Here’s hoping the ‘terrible twos’ are on their way out soon!
  • She has two new back teeth, which I suspect may have exacerbated the new biting phase. We’ve had some red cheeks here, but no complaints. Sasha is pretty hardcore when it comes to illness/pain, and it takes a lot for her to actually tell us there’s a problem or act unwell, we have to be quite vigilant. I’ve started on a big day out, before realising half way on the train that she’s had a raging temp- she seems fine until I feel her!
  • Likes having her back scratched, Fireman Sam (and acting out ‘rescue scenes’ from this with Freddie), playing ‘Pop up Pirate’ and ‘Hungry Hippos’ (awesome Xmas presents!), walking everywhere,
  • Still will often have a daytime nap, although never in her bed. If she has napped, we can guarantee that it will take on average 5 trips upstairs to put her back to bed. Favourite excuses right now include “my covers are wonky”, “I need a POOOOOOOOO!”, “My pillow is not right”, “I want a book in my bed”, “This book is toooo scary” and “my baby is looking at me funny”! I figure all that walking back up and down the stairs is good exercise…
  • Giving me a cuddle and saying “What a lovely, squishy, Mummy!” which I’m taking as a compliment, not that I’m carrying too many post-Christmas pounds!
  • Is able to name most letters of the alphabet now, and can point out her name, and Freddie’s name if it ever appears anywhere.
  • Has gone off eating cheese, which is really annoying as it’s a useful snack! She’ll still have it grated in hot dishes, but has even gone off the previously lauded cheese sandwiches. The love of grapes is still going strong though!
  • Is still hilarious, easily one of the funniest people going, she makes me laugh all the time, what with her deliberate facial expressions (see photo above!) and funny phrasings- she is definitely blessed in this department!

and finally…

  • We think she’s going to be left handed, as she has a strong preference for using her spoon and crayons in this hand. Any ‘lefties’ or parents of ‘lefties’ have any advice when it comes to teaching left-handed children to write? I know we’re a little way off here, but would be good to get some tips in advance, it’s a bit alien to me!

Ahh she is growing up so much. I love that photo. Her face says it all with her personality shining brightly. I love this age. I have two toddlers and they are changing everyday aren’t they at this age? Lovely post #ordinarymoments

This is a gorgeous post. My little boy is just over a month behind her in age and some of this is so similar, in particular the acting out scenes from Fireman Sam, I often head ‘oh no there’s a fire, call Byman (that’s what it sounds like) Sam, come put it out. NORMAN!’ Children are so funny especially toddlers. Really enjoyed reading about little Sasha xxx #ordinarymoments

Hi Becky, I’ve just found your lovely blog through the Ordinary Moments link up! A lovely post and it’s so nice to be able to document all the subtle things your little ones do as they get older- definitely moments to cherish and document for their 18th birthdays like you say 🙂 My little boy is also called Freddie, aka ‘Little One’ 😉

Lovely post Hun!!! She sounds like such a character, and so much fun to be around 🙂 (maybe not the bite-y bit though….Arthur is doing this too, only to me it’s a bloody nightmare, like you though I suspect teething may be to blame….I hope!)
Hungry hippos is an awesome game so totally get why she loves that haha!
I don’t know anything about teaching a lefty to write but I can confirm (being a lefty myself) that she will learn and it will be fine 🙂 xx

Brilliant photo 🙂 She sounds like such a fun little girl, and I LOVE the “my covers are wonky” excuse. Quite right, who’d want wonky covers?!
We have a hot-tempered toddler here too, and in fact his nursery teacher has asked to speak to me about his tendency to push other kids… They need a long time (and endless patience) to learn to deal with their anger, that’s for sure!

She sounds so lovely and I love that she calls you a squishy Mummy- Mads says the same thing to me. Love the photo of her as well, what a great expression! x
