2017….A brand new year!

There’s something about starting a new year that gives me a real boost, and I always feel that I can’t wait to put plans into practice. I’m not really one for resolutions these days, as I think it always makes you feel mildly depressed and puts a downer on things if you don’t follow through with them all, but I do love jotting down a few ideas/hopes/dreams for the coming year.

Looking back, 2016 was actually okay for us as a family despite the unsettled feeling of limbo as we decided to put our house on the market on a bit of whim back in April, and then not actually moving until the end of October. It’s meant that this past year I felt that I couldn’t really plan for stuff as much as i’d like, but then again it was perhaps a good lesson in learning that not everything in life can be controlled! Despite some upheaval, I feel like I’ve actually ended the year feeling more content than I have in a long time- I love both my jobs, the new house is perfect for us (despite me having 2 weeks of wondering if we’d made the worst decision ever), Adam and I are in a good place and the children are happy and settled at school and are at such a lovely age most of the time. We are also (touch wood) healthy and happy and that really does count for a lot.

So a weird year in lots of ways but actually ending really well, and we have so much excitement for the coming year (and also nerves, I won’t lie!) about the impending arrival of the new baby in June, plus some building work we are about to undertake on our kitchen/dining room extension and on our bathroom. We embarked on our last house renovation when I was 7 months pregnant with Sasha, so it seems building work and being pregnant go hand in hand in our family <joy>, but we’re hoping to finished in plenty of time (all going well) before baby arrives.

Blog-wise I still absolutely love this little space of mine, despite falling out with it occasionally, and I can’t wait to continue writing here in 2017. There is so much I want to cover this year- pregnancy and, all going well, the new baby, something I never got to do with the previous two as I wasn’t blogging then, the new house renovation, travel plans, and also just to write and ramble on for fun again. I love working with great brands and companies so much, and feel very lucky to do so, but would also like to write more for ‘me’ again, as I’ve found in recent months my collaborations have taken up a lot of my time (in the nicest possible way) leaving me without much headspace for other things.

I think I’ve also mentioned that I want to start vlogging and making videos this year- both for fun and of our family and also for brands, and also improve my photography (this seems to be a yearly goal, but I think it is slowly getting better!). We went for a post-Christmas walk the other day so Freddie and Sasha could blow off some steam, and I took my Olympus Pen with me to take some nice photos (as shown here, 1 of me, Adam and Freddie taken by Sasha!), and also so I could have a go at filming and capturing our walk. After discovering a great editing programme that’s compatible with both my camera and laptop (honestly, Filmora is a real revelation!), I made my first video and uploaded it to my (teeny) YouTube Channel, and you know what? I’m actually really pleased with it, despite the fact that it’s probably not of interest to anyone outside of our immediate family and some of the cuts are too long, but it’s a start, and I already feel on the way to achieving one of my 2017 goals.

I’ve added it on the end here if anyone fancies a look, and I’m always open to constructive criticism!

I hope everyone who reads this blog had a fabulous New Year, and I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017! x
